About the Role
An engineering organization focused on advanced industrial and energy-sector projects is seeking a Process Mechanical Design Engineer to support integrated engineering design, analysis, and technical execution activities. This role involves contributing to conceptual, preliminary, and detailed mechanical system designs across complex engineering programs.
The successful candidate will work within multidisciplinary technical teams supporting the design, modernization, and implementation of mechanical and process systems in regulated and safety-focused environments.
What You Will Be Doing
- Contributing to engineering projects as part of a collaborative technical team
- Designing mechanical and process systems and components for industrial and complex facility applications
- Supporting retrofits and modifications to existing systems and infrastructure
- Designing piping systems, heat exchangers, tanks, and pressure vessels
- Performing classification, code selection, analysis, and registration activities for pressurized systems and components
- Performing engineering calculations to support equipment design and component selection
- Preparing technical documentation including conceptual designs, specifications, design descriptions, manuals, and engineering notes
- Providing engineering support during construction, installation, testing, and commissioning activities
- Reporting project progress and technical findings
- Conducting field walkdowns, inspections, and engineering investigations
- Identifying technical issues and supporting resolution activities
- Preparing calculations, material lists, plans, and engineering deliverables in accordance with applicable codes and standards
- Recording observations, conducting technical inspections, and preparing engineering reports
- Supporting additional engineering and project activities as required
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Applied Science from an accredited institution
- Professional engineering designation or eligibility for registration with a recognized engineering association
Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Mechanical Engineering
- Experience in industrial, energy, infrastructure, or regulated engineering environments is considered an asset
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to follow and implement complex technical procedures
- Effective communication and coordination with clients, suppliers, and multidisciplinary teams
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in technical project environments
- Ability to manage engineering design tasks of varying complexity
- Strong independent problem-solving and technical decision-making capabilities
- Knowledge of engineering codes and standards related to the design, construction, and commissioning of industrial systems
- Familiarity with standards such as CSA, ASME, pressure vessel, and piping codes is considered an asset
Security & Eligibility Requirements
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances
- Ability to provide verifiable background history and complete required screening processes
Working Conditions
- Occasional visits to industrial or controlled-access facilities may be required
- Potential exposure to hazardous environments requiring personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Work may involve safety-sensitive operational environments requiring strict procedural compliance
- Occasional confined-space access or respirator use may be required
- Full-time schedule within a collaborative engineering environment
