Lead Mechanical / Nuclear Systems Engineer

About the Role

An advanced engineering organization is seeking a Lead Mechanical / Nuclear Systems Engineer to support the development of next-generation reactor and energy systems. This leadership role focuses on mechanical system design, pressure-boundary engineering, and integration of critical reactor subsystems across complex engineering programs.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership throughout the engineering lifecycle, from conceptual development through detailed design and system integration. Strong technical judgment, systems thinking, and experience with high-integrity mechanical systems are essential for this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical and pressure-boundary design activities for advanced reactor systems
  • Define interfaces between mechanical systems and instrumentation & control components
  • Support design and integration of primary pressurized systems and associated components
  • Lead emergency cooling and safety-system integration activities
  • Serve as a technical lead across multidisciplinary engineering programs
  • Guide engineering design reviews, technical evaluations, and system integration efforts
  • Ensure compliance with applicable engineering codes, standards, and quality requirements
  • Support design documentation, technical analysis, and engineering decision-making processes

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a related discipline
  • 7–15 years of experience in mechanical or nuclear systems engineering
  • Experience with pressure vessels, piping systems, and high-integrity mechanical equipment
  • Strong knowledge of ASME, CSA, or equivalent engineering codes and standards
  • Demonstrated technical leadership experience on complex engineering programs
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in nuclear, energy, aerospace, defence, or other regulated industries
  • Familiarity with reactor systems, thermal systems, or safety-critical infrastructure
  • Experience supporting multidisciplinary engineering teams through design and integration phases
  • Understanding of manufacturing, testing, or commissioning processes for complex systems
